Matt Merritt

Matt Merritt was born in Leicester in 1969, and brought up in nearby Coalville. He studied history at Newcastle University and has worked as a journalist at newspapers in Leicester, Cardiff and Peterborough, as well as for a contract publisher. He is currently Production Editor at Bird Watching magazine, Peterborough.

His chapbook Making The Most Of The Light was published by HappenStance Press in 2005, and a full collection is due from Arrowhead Press in mid-2008. His poems have also appeared in a wide range of magazines in the UK, USA and Canada, including Magma, Poetry Nottingham, Boxcar Poetry Review and Umbrella. He was the winner of the 2004 Plough Prize, and runner-up in the 2007 BBC Wildlife Poet Of The Year.
