D A Prince

D A Prince was born and brought up in Coalville, Leicestershire, although her family roots were in Wales.  A degree in English Literature, followed by training in librarianship led to a range of jobs in libraries, teaching and in educational administration, until she returned to Leicestershire in the early 1990s.

After regular publication in the New Statesman and Spectator competitions  ( pastiche and political satire are a good discipline), she gained confidence in submitting her work to poetry magazines.  Publication in magazines such as Staple, Smiths Knoll, Poetry Nottingham brought her to the attention of Pikestaff Press, who published two pamphlets  -  Undoing Time (1998), and Keeping in Touch (2002).

Nearly the Happy Hour, her first full-length collection, was published by HappenStance Press in 2008  -  and this also marked the publisher’s move from pamphlet publishing into full-length collections.  The editorial process behind the collection was the subject of a MLitt dissertation by Colin Begg, also published by HappenStance.

She reviews for South, Sphinx and Staple, and is a member of SoundsWrite, the Leicester-based poetry group for women that draws members from across the Midlands.
